Eco-Friendly
Floors
Each of us has a responsibility to protect our environment and
the world we live in, so it is reassuring to know that the products
we chose to put in our homes can be as aesthetically pleasing
as they are friendly to the environment. At Butler Floor &
Carpet Co. we carry a selection of eco-friendly materials including:
Marmoleum Click: :
This linoleum product is composed of all natural ingredients;
linseed oil, rosins, and wood flour. The backing is a strong jute
fiber made from spun yarn and the pigments are ecologically friendly.
The cork backing provides sound deadening and is a renewable resource.
An added benefit is that this flooring system does not require
any adhesives.
Cork
Tiles:
Cork is harvested
every nine years from mature cork oak trees without harming either
the tree or its environment. The cork tree is the only tree that
can regenerate itself after each harvest for up to 150 years. After
the cork is harvested, it is sent to a factory where cork bottle
stoppers and other products are made. The waste is then ground up
to make cork flooring. Cork is a resilient, durable, noise-reducing
product.
Bamboo Hardwood:
Bamboo
is a fast renewing resource, ready for harvest after only five to
six years. A high quality bamboo floor is formaldehyde free and
has superior strength and durability.
Carpet:
Shaw Carpet is the only company that recycles
post-consumer Type 6 carpet fiber. The recycled fiber can be used
again and again in the production of new carpet.
- Our post-consumer collection system keeps up to 300 million
pounds of carpet from landfills each year.
- Evergreen Nylon Recycling helps to save enough oil to produce
millions of additional gallons of gasoline annually
- Greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced by 45% since 2000.
- Our Waste-to-Energy facility diverts 21,000 tons of carpet
and wood flour waste from the landfill each year by converting
the waste into steam which is used to power the operations of
the plant. The process is environmentally friendly in the cleaner
emissions that will result, and it saves more than 2.5 million
gallons of fuel oil per year.
Shaw also has initiated programs to reduce manufacturing waste.

Indoor
Air Quality:
Most people spend a majority of their time indoors, which means
the quality of the air you breath may be a concern. The Resilient
Floor Covering Institute assigns a “Floor Score” to
various resilient products, indicating their affect on indoor air
quality. To learn more, go to www.rfci.com.
Remember, the decisions we make today
greatly affect our tomorrow.
